AI voice scams often use a script that pushes urgency: a payment issue, a family emergency, or a request for a one-time code. Your goal is to break the script.
Audio tells to listen for
- Unnatural pauses or overly smooth speech.
- Odd emphasis on names or numbers.
- Inconsistent background noise.
- A voice that sounds slightly "flat" or too consistent.
Script-breaking questions
Ask a question that only a real person would know. AI callers struggle with personal context or unexpected prompts.
- Ask for a callback number and hang up.
- Request a specific detail only the real person would know.
- Say you will call back via the official company number.
Create a family "code word" for emergencies. If a caller cannot provide it, treat the
call as suspicious.
What to do if you already shared info
Change passwords, remove SMS as recovery, and notify the institution using its official channels. Acting fast reduces damage.
